And how do you get it?

Had a really insightful talk from an outside speaker who really wanted to inspire us to open up more about ourselves and to be more open to those around us.

We started off with a task to talk about ourselves, the speaker would go around each person and ask 3 questions, "What's your name?", "Where are you from?" and "Why are you at LAU?". It was very interesting to hear everyone's story of why they are here and it made me think that I don't really know my peers that well, as I didn't know where some of them were from. He told us that it was important to get to know those around you because they are your biggest asset and talk to as many people as possible as you gain different forms of knowledge from different people and some people that don't know you as well will give you a more honest opinion about your work.

We then we were told to write down three things that we want from life and why? This exercise was to help us think what are the important things that we hold dear.

I wrote down the following:

  • Self Content- to stay humble and to remember that I am privileged to be who I am

  • Close Relationships with family and friends- they are my biggest support system and keep me motivated

  • Confidence- to prove those who put me down about it wrong

“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” ― Oscar Wilde

This quote by Oscar Wilde really resonated with me from the talk, everyone else had their own path, I just have to be myself cause there's only one me.
