I started with a base sketch as per usual for the front cover design it was a nice layout and I think it looked alright.

Started to layer colours onto each part of the picture, I would use an image as the base of the section and then blur it to just get the colours. I would then paint over that to add more broad details.

I was trying to follow the tutorial by Hardy Fowler, but it seemed like the more I added details the worse it got, I tired to add finer details in the grass, the trees and the rock, but it did not correlate in the way that I wanted to.

This was the final image of the first draft and I hate most things about it, I didn't even finish it off in the end because I knew there was not much fixing it. The image looks very computer generated which is not the feeling that I'm going for. I think the tutorial I watched was too technical for me and it didn't involve much painting in the process which is something I had missed. This is also the first time I have done a landscape like this so I wasn't too surprised that it turned out badly. I did learn a lot from this piece though. I learned about using the custom shapes tool, it is definitely something I want to use in the future. It also gave me a chance to explore something that I am not use to painting. Will give this another go but try a method that is more to my style of digital art.
